PlayStation 4 will support the upcoming version of the Unity engine, which is also being headed to the PlayStation Vita handheld, the PS Mobile initiative and the cloud mobile gaming service that will be linked to PSN.

Tools will be launched later during 2013 and the company is planning to introduce a beta period so that developers can offer feedback.

The official statement from Unity reads, “Work is still in early stages so it will be more than a couple of months before we have something for you all to play with, but we’re hitting the ground running in the efforts to give you all more options to publish your awesome games.”

Unity support for the PlayStation 4 means that a number of smaller teams that use the engine will be able to bring their video games to the Sony device.
