The PlayStation 4 will, in fact, receive its Gaikai cloud streaming service of PS3 titles during 2014 in North America at least, according to a new statement from Sony.

The PlayStation 4 isn't backwards compatible with the PS3 but Sony confirmed that it was going to allow PS4 users to play PS3 games using the Gaikai cloud streaming service.

Since the PS4's reveal, however, Sony has been quite silent about its Gaikai plans.

The company's head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has now revealed via IGN that Gaikai will launch for the PS4 in 2014 in North America at least.

This big release window is due to the fact that Sony wants to launch Gaikai with as many high-quality PS3 titles as possible, in order to please PS4 owners.

These titles will be playable on the actual PS4, but also on the PS Vita and the new PS Vita TV.

As of yet, it's unclear when Gaikai will launch in Europe and other parts of the world.
