Shortages might happen at the PS4's launch, according to Sony America boss

Sony admitted that it's quite possible that the demand for the PlayStation 4 will exceed the supplies available in stores, especially since the next-gen console is quite popular nowadays.

Gamers are getting ready to receive not one, but two different next-gen devices at the end of the year, as both Sony and Microsoft will release their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively.

After the very successful E3 2013 last week, Sony is experiencing a rush of popularity, and its American division boss, Jack Tretton, admitted that the demand could surpass the supplies that will be sent to stores.

"I certainly think, given the technology that we're offering, given the software lineup, given the price point we have, that we'll have consumers interested in excess of what we're able to manufacture," Tretton told Forbes.

As of right now, the PS4 doesn't even have an official release date, but Sony confirmed that it's going to launch the device in both North America and Europe, and that it could even skip its native Japan in order to make sure that stocks are high.
