Sony might decide to overclock the PlayStation 4's CPU from 1.6GHz to 2.0GHz ahead of the console's launch, in order to thoroughly beat Microsoft's own next-generation console, the Xbox 720, at least according to a new report.

The PlayStation 4 was revealed to the world recently and Sony quickly confirmed that it's powered by a special CPU made by AMD that's running at 1.6GHz.

Now, PS4daily reports that Sony might actually overclock the CPU in the final version of the next-generation console to 2.0GHz.

No actual reasoning was given, but you can expect Sony to want to thoroughly overtake Microsoft's own next-generation platform, the Xbox 720, in terms of performance.

As of yet, it's unclear just how powerful the new console from Microsoft will be, so expect to hear much more about it and Sony's own PlayStation 4 soon.
