Shuhei Yosihida, the leader of the Sony Worldwide Studios, says that the big 1.50 system update for the coming PlayStation 4 can be downloaded by players in the background, while they test out other features of the console or play a game.

The executive is quoted by VG247 as saying that gamers will be free to get the day one update while they experience Knack or Killzone: Shadow Fall, the two big titles that will be offered on launch.

Yoshida also says that Facebook images can be imported to be used as avatars on the PlayStation 4 and that custom wallpapers cannot be used as XMB backgrounds.

The PlayStation 4 will get a 1.50 system update on November 15 in North America and two weeks later in Europe.

It will introduce many of the features that Sony has been advertising, including Play & Go and extensive social options.
