14 DAY TRIAL // The Chinese state says that the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony now has the China Compulsory Certificate, which might mean that the hardware might soon be officially sold on the open market in the Communist country.
The certificate is described as “a compulsory safety mark for many products imported, sold or used in the Chinese market.”
Sony will have one until 2016.
China has not allowed hardware makers to sell home consoles directly on the Chinese market since the start of the 2000’s but they are being traded via a gray market.
The problem with getting the China Compulsory Certificate so late during the life cycle of the PlayStation 3 is that Sony might be interested in getting consoles to China, but it will be unable to support them in the long term with new games.
The PlayStation 4 is expected to launch late during next year, alongside a new device from Microsoft.
