Sony Online Entertainment has released a new developer video detailing the first instance of loot, the Implants introduced to their free to play massively multiplayer online shooter Planetside 2.

Planetside 2 continues the action in the first iteration in the series, delivering territory control battles in an open world and large scale skirmishes, where players fight each other on foot or using various land and air vehicles.

The vid features Luke Sigismund, Planetside 2’s lead designer, speaking about what Implants are, how players can use them, and how they can be obtained.

Players start out with an enhanced targeting implant, that puts player names and health bars on the HUD, but they can swap it out for implants with other uses, such as implants that protect users from fall damage or that mark players who manifested aggression toward you.

In order for implants to work, they need a charger, and players can either earn or pay for them. Players will be able to get implants from loot, which is a new thing, so be on the lookout for them dropping while in-game.

Gamers interested in trying out Planetside 2 can head over to its website and register an account for free. The first person shooter is currently only available on PC, but Sony also intends to release a version for the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system, sometime later this year.
