Electronic Arts is better positioned because of its diversity

One of the most outspoken executives at publisher Electronic Arts has spoken about the problems at rival social game developer Zynga, comparing the company to a runner who is competing in an Olympic event and has hit a wall.

Peter Moore, who is the chief operations officer at Electronic Arts, has stated, “To use, if you will, an Olympic analogy we’re competing in the decathlon and if we miss in one event, we’ve got nine others we can make up on. Zynga is running a marathon. They just hit the wall and dropped to their knees.”

Zynga is vulnerable because it can only perform well in one area, that of social games, while EA has the luxury of delivering products in more gaming spaces.

The share price of the social game company has dropped to one fifth of what it was during the December 2011 IPO.

Zynga also announced that it was going into the real money gambling genre.
