The development team working on Path of Exile announces that it is developing a new mini-expansion for the title, called Sacrifice of the Vaal, which is set to be launched for all gamers on March 5, with a host of new content to experience.

The studio explains that everything associated with the new release will be offered for free, allowing dedicated fans to experience a new challenge, deal with innovative mechanics, and explore more modes.

Path of Exile will include a new storyline linked to Atziri, Queen of the Vaal, and the entire game now has secret corrupted areas to discover.

The team also promises to add Vaal skill gems, The Vaal Orb and corrupted items, more Challenge leagues including an ambush and invasion one, more boss monsters, and two Player versus Player modes called Cut-throat and Sarn Arena.

The official announcement explains, “While most of the Sacrifice of the Vaal content is layered throughout the entire Path of Exile experience, the final encounter with Queen Atziri and her minions is designed for high-level characters and requires a lot of skill to complete.”

A launch competition will also be held, with a special microtransaction effect offered to the 50 players in each of the new challenges league to kill all the new bosses, including Atziri.
