Sony has announced that it is extending for a third time the deadline for the current PlayStation Network maintenance period, with the service set to resume at some point in the evening for those using United States time and in late morning for European gamers.

The official PlayStation Twitter account says, “Update: PSN maintenance is requiring more time than expected, and is now expected to complete tonight. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

The European account adds, “Unfortunately PSN maintenance is still underway and service is now not expected to resume before tomorrow morning. We'll update again soon.”

Once again Sony is not offering any reasons for the continued delays, which will only increases speculation that the company is one again facing a serious security breach.

The video game developer and hardware maker will offer more information as the situation progresses.
