PlayStation 4 owners in North America are experiencing issues caused by the PlayStation Network online service, which currently prevents them from launching games, applications, and other social services. Sony is investigating the problem.

The PSN service has gone through some troubled periods in recent times, as the major mechanic came under attack from DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) schemes, while simultaneously buckling under the pressure of too many users during peak periods like the winter holidays.

In recent times, things have gone pretty well for Sony, but now the corporation confirms on its PSN Status page that the service is once again going through a problematic period.

According to the company, PS4 users "may be experiencing issues related to launching games, applications, and/or social features such as trophies, messaging, or friends list."

Sony confirms that it's addressing the problems, but at least today, April 2, things are going to remain problematic for PS4 users. It's unclear if the issue is present only in North America or if it's plaguing PS4 users in Europe or Asia as well.

Expect to see an update from Sony in the following hours. Until then, keep trying to launch your games or apps on the PS4 until you get through.

Update #1: Users confirm that the problems are present outside of North America, in the UK, to be more specific. As of yet, no new details from Sony.

Update #2: Things seem to be back to normal, as Sony has updated the Status page.
