Sony has confirmed that, after the PlayStation Network was attacked via DDoS throughout the weekend, the system is back online and that the August 25 maintenance that was planned for today has been postponed until a later time.

The PSN is the backbone of Sony's many different devices and services, from the PS4 and PS4, to the Sony Online Entertainment MMOs. As such, when the DDoS attacks started appearing at the beginning of the weekend, the offline periods and disconnects were quickly felt by users.

Sony quickly stepped forward to confirm that these are just flood attacks and that the personal data of users hasn't been accessed.

Now, after being publicly scolded by the hackers, Sony has confirmed that the PSN is back online and fully operational on the PS blog.

What's more, the maintenance period that was scheduled to happen today, August 25, has been postponed. Sony has promised that it will provide a new date for the planned offline period but no word has been given as of yet.

This isn't the first time the PSN has fallen prey to DDoS attacks, as quite a few have happened in recent years, ever since the infamous 2011 hack showed just how vulnerable Sony's system was.
