A multitude of PS3 owners have come forward to reveal that the recently released firmware 4.60 for their device has caused either different errors in the install process or has even completely bricked their consoles, meaning they can no longer be turned on.

Sony rolled out yesterday not one, but two different system software updates for the PS4 and PS3, taking the PS4 firmware to version 1.72, while the PS3 software reached 4.60.

While the PS4 firmware rollout was a success and owners of the new console encountered no problems, such a thing didn't happen on PS3, as firmware update 4.60 has apparently been causing owners of the old device plenty of problems.

One reader revealed that he was unable to download the firmware from the PlayStation Network and, when trying to install it from a USB stick, encountered an error when it reached 99% completion.

Other PS3 owners on forums like NeoGAF report that the firmware managed to complete installation but when the console restarted, it no longer turned on, meaning it was pretty much bricked.

As of yet, no explanation has been given by Sony for these problems, but it's possible that a new firmware update, version 4.61, might debut in the near future to fix these issues.
