Sony mentioned, among many other announcements at last week’s E3 2012, that the PlayStation Vita would receive support for PlayStation 1 classic titles this summer, thanks to a firmware update.

The PS Vita has been around for quite a few months and, while many big games have appeared for it, nostalgic owners could only treat themselves to certain older PSP titles.

Now, Sony has confirmed that a variety of classic games that appeared originally for the PlayStation 1 will soon be playable on the PS Vita.

Quite a few titles have already been confirmed, including Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Tomb Raider, or Crash Bandicoot, which are going to be grouped in a PSone Classics section.

More games will be revealed to PS Vita owners ahead of the release of the firmware for the portable console this summer.
