A new version of the portable console is coming, reportedly

Sony has apparently trademarked the next iteration of its PlayStation Vita handheld console, the PS Vita 3000, in its native Japan. Sketches show an almost identical design to the current 2000 edition, although an HDMI port is likely to make an appearance.

Sony launched the PS Vita quite a few years ago as a much more powerful replacement for the old PSP. The initial installment, the 1000, carried a great OLED display, but after a while the Japanese company presented the 2000 iteration, which had an LCD display, but also built-in memory and a few other improvements.

Now, a Tweet from a bot that displays trademarks registered in Japan shows sketches for a new version of the PS Vita, presumably the 3000.

The exterior design seems to be the same, but some elements are a bit hard to distinguish. It seems that a new HDMI port is added on the handheld console, presumably to eliminate the need of a PlayStation TV device.

What's more, while at first glance it seems that there are still two shoulder buttons, L1 and R1 respectively, it's possible that a second set, L2 and R2, might be included, so that Remote Play with PS4 games work much better on the handheld console.

Sony has yet to comment on the possible trademark, so take it with a grain of salt.
