The oculus Rift virtual reality headset has managed to get past its financing goal on Kickstarter with more than 4,500 backers giving the project more than the 250,000 dollars (201,987 Euro) it asked for.

The virtual reality headset still has another 28 days to go, which means that it could get much more from backers before the people behind it need to move to the production phase.

The device will also be included in the upcoming Doom 4 from id Software and those who have Doom 3: BFG Edition will be able to use it on the day it launches.

John Carmack stated during QuakeCon 2012 that, “It’s going to be a fully supported feature on because I think I could justify — based on the response that we got from our 8-year-old re-release title on here, when we finally do end up giving demos on DOOM 4, we’re gonna say, ‘Okay, here’s all this great stuff, run through all this stuff,’ everybody has a great time, and then at the end you can play it in virtual reality, and that’ll just put the stamp on everything.”
