Palmer Luckey, one of the original creators of the Oculus Rift, says that he is surprised by the big number of death threats and harassment phone calls that he has been receiving since it was announced that his company was being acquired by Facebook.

He states on Reddit that, "We expected a negative reaction from people in the short term, we did not expect to be getting so many death threats and harassing phone calls that extended to our families."

It's the right of every industry enthusiast to be unhappy about the Facebook deal, but it does not make sense to threaten the creator of the virtual reality technology for a business decision.

Luckey adds, "We know we will prove ourselves with actions and not words, but that kind of shit is unwarranted, especially since it is impacting people who have nothing to do with Oculus."

Facebook has acquired the Oculus Rift for 2 billion dollars (1.55 billion Euro) and plans to allow the company to focus on the gaming applications of the headset at the moment, although in the future, it will also be used to enhance social connections between users.

A second version of the development kit for the device was revealed during the Game Developers Conference and a consumer version will be launched before the end of 2014.
