Sony has confirmed that lots of people signed up to its PlayStation Plus service after E3 2012, when the company confirmed that all Plus members would have access to an Instant Game Collection, a group of full-fledged games they can play for free anytime they want on their PlayStation 3.

PlayStation Plus has offered a variety of impressive rewards for its members but plenty of PS3 owners were still reluctant to pay a monthly subscription in order to get access to Plus.

Sony made the deal even sweeter, however, back at E3 2012, when it revealed a new bonus called Instant Game Collection.

This resulted in a huge number of people signing up for Plus, with Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Senior Director of PlayStation digital platforms, Jack Buser, confirming to Joystiq that “membership sales in PS Plus almost doubled” during the week of E3 this year.

The PlayStation Store also recorded lots of transactions, with Buser adding that the online marketplace has logged its highest “transactional sales” quarter between April and June this year.

Considering Sony is banking big on digital distribution, it’s great to hear that its efforts are succeeding.
