The United States Patent Office is denying an application from Microsoft designed to secure the trademark for Killer Instinct, which might mean that a new game linked to the classic series might no longer be considered.

The official organization says that the “entertainment services, namely, providing online video games” trademark could not be accepted because it could cause confusion with another entertainment Killer Instinct product.

Presumably, the USPTO is talking about a television show with the same name, which was launched on Fox during 2005 and has only seen 9 of 13 episodes aired in the United States to little interest from the public.

Killer Instinct is a series of fighting games from the early ‘90’s which was created by Rare and might be revived in High Definition format for the next Xbox home console.
