Nintendo has confirmed that the original Wii will no longer be sold in Europe, as no other units are going to be imported on the continent, although the redesigned Wii Mini will continue to be available for purchase.

Nintendo surprised fans when it confirmed earlier this month that the production of the original Wii had ended, meaning the console will no longer be available for purchase in its native Japan.

Now, the company's European division has confirmed to MCV that the same decision has been taken for Europe, as no original Wii consoles are going to be imported on the continent anymore.

The Wii Mini, a redesigned version of the Wii that supports only disc-based games and no online features, is still going to be sold, while the Wii U, with its backwards compatibility, is going to take center stage.
