European users of the new eShop for the Wii U home console say that they are now unable to access any 18+ rated content before 11 PM each day, as the company has introduced a blanket restriction to access that’s not linked in any way to the actual parental permission settings.

A representative from the company has commented on the decision by saying, “Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries.”

The problem with the approach is that it even affects those consoles that are not within the reach of a minor and limits legitimate access to content.

Nintendo has always been careful to appeal to parents and kids with its home consoles and that means introducing measures to shield them from inappropriate content.
