Ragnar Tornquist, the leading developer working on Dreamfall Chapters, says that Nintendo is at the moment also courting indie developers in order to deliver more content on the eShop digital store linked to the Wii U home console.

He tells Edge that, “There are a lot of intriguing indie titles on the eShop, and they’re obviously passionate about increasing the variety of range of games available.”

Tornquist believes that Nintendo is only lagging behind Sony because its hardware has traditionally been a closed system that the company controlled in its entirety.

Microsoft brought more attention to indie game development after it announced that it would allow for self-publishing on the Xbox One.

The device can also be used to actually create new games and more details are expected at the Gamescom event in late August.
