The development team at Nintendo working on the 3DS handheld announces that it is delivering a new firmware for the device, labeled 8.0.0-18U, which is designed to improve the overall stability of the device and to make a number of other small adjustments that enhance the user experience on the platform.

The company is not willing to offer more details about the changes, which will probably be enough for gamers to start speculating that the update was only launched in order to eliminate any homebrew apps running on the device.

Nintendo states on its official page that “After the Nintendo 3DS system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Nintendo 3DS system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable.”

The 3DS continues to be the best-selling piece of hardware created by the hardware manufacturer, and adding new features is one of the priorities of the company.

Super Smash Bros. is the biggest upcoming title set to arrive on the handheld before the end of the year.

This version of the experience will offer a different stage line-up than the one the development team at Nintendo plans to offer on the Wii U.
