Ninja Gaiden 3, the upcoming game in the long-running series, will make some fundamental changes to the franchise, and one of them is that the traditional masked enemies now have actual faces, allowing the player to establish a clear connection to the people that he cuts down during the game.

Yoshinori Ueda, who is the online planner working on Ninja Gaiden 3, stated, “In Ninja Gaiden 3, we’re aiming to give players the closest feeling of what it’s like to cut someone down with a katana.”

One of the central ideas that the Team Ninja developers plan to bring to the game is one of humanity, with the central hero Ryu Hayabusa offering more of a window into his tortured soul via backstory bits.

Tecmo Koei plans to launch Ninja Gaiden 3 on March 20 in the United States and three days later in Europe and will make it playable on home consoles at first, with a Nintendo Wii U version also in development.
