The next Gears of War game from Microsoft's Black Tusk studio will reignite and grow the franchise, as the company wants to take care of its new acquisition.

Microsoft surprised quite a lot of fans when it confirmed that it had acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise from developer Epic Games and had tasked its recently-formed Black Tusk studio with creating a new iteration in the series.

According to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, while the team is still working through the overall plan, the main goal with the next Gears of War game from Black Tusk is to reignite the franchise and grow it so that old fans and new ones will want to try it out.

Spencer also confirmed on Twitter that it won't be a quick turn in the series, so it's unclear just what story it will approach and what mechanics it might introduce in order to flesh out the third-person shooter series.
