Greater Rift keys also don't count towards the legendary drop table

Blizzard's Travis Day, the game designer for Diablo 3, confirms that the next patch for the game will remove the legendary beam emanating from Greater Rift keys that drop during the regular Nephalem Rifts, in order to avoid tricking players.

Diablo 3 has been around for some time now, and ever since the release of patch 2.0.1, which introduced the new loot system that allowed legendary gear to drop way more often than before, players have started falling in love with the orange beam emanating from such gear when it drops from monsters or chests.

However, with patch 2.1.0, the studio introduced Greater Rifts, which are only accessible by using special keys dropped by enemies in regular Nephalem Rifts. These keys, unfortunately, use the same legendary color and beam, leading many to become anxious about the new item, only to find out that it's just a key.

Blizzard's Travis Day has now confirmed on the Battle.net forums that the beam is going to be removed, and that, while the keys have the Legendary glow, they're now actual legendary items and won't affect the drop rate of actual gear.

"The keys are not part of the legendary drop table, they are entirely separate entries in the table and have no impact of any kind on whether or not you will get legendary items. Also I'll be removing the beam from the keys in a future patch," he states.

As such, fans should look forward to the change soon enough.
