The recent rumor about a Need for Speed: Underground remake coming from developer Criterion Games have apparently been dismissed, at least according to the Twitter account of the studio's Creative Director, Alex Ward.

Criterion impressed plenty of longtime Need for Speed fans with last year's NFS: Most Wanted, which was actually a reboot of the original 2005 game.

Earlier today, a new rumor appeared on the web alongside a logo of Need for Speed: Underground, an apparent new reboot coming from Criterion that remade the classic 2003 racing title.

Now, Criterion Creative Director Alex Ward has apparently dismissed the report, saying on Twitter that it's "totally fake" and that the studio has apparently moved on from working on remakes or reboots of older games.

Electronic Arts, on the other hand, has issued a regular "no comment on rumors and speculation" statement about the report.
