The NPD Group is releasing its monthly sales numbers for the United States video game market in June, and the Nintendo-made 3DS handheld is the best selling device just as The Last of Us manages to take the top position in the software top ten.

The 3DS has managed to move 225,000 units to gamers, an increase of 40 percent over the same period in 2012.

Liam Callahan, an analyst for NPD, is quoted by VG247 as saying that "Strong double-digit increases in the 3DS hardware sales were coupled with triple-digit digit increases in software for June sales."

The Microsoft-made Xbox 360 has managed to deliver 140,000 in sales, and the new Ouya has sold every available unit during its first month of sale.

Overall, hardware sales declined by 30 percent when compared to the same month last year.
