Ed Boon, the leader of the development team at NetherRealm, says that he is still interested in creating a crossover fighting game that includes both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter characters.

The developer says that at the moment such a project is in the planning stages and suggests that Capcom, the company that owns the Street Fighter universe, is not interested in it, according to NeoGAF.

Ed Boon has made Mortal Kombat and has been involved in the creation of all the titles associated with the series.

For a long time, the two franchises and their different approaches to core fighting game mechanics have dominated the genre.

Recently, NetherRealm has created Injustice: Gods Among Us, which uses characters taken from the pantheon of DC Comics.

The title has been well received by fighting game fans and has had quite a bit of post-launch DLC.
