A little bit of MK past from a canceled project merged with the hope of a better future

A gallery of behind-the-scenes photographs from the performance capture for the original release of Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection HD has emerged on the Internet, showing the world what could have been.

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection HD was initially set to feature complete remakes of the first three MK titles but was canceled after Midway was acquired by Warner Bros, the latter deciding to scrap the project in development and to simply release straight ports instead.

The initial project was supposed to include some motion capture from actual actors before being canceled, but all is not lost, as make-up artist Tanea Brooks posted a gallery of the work on her personal website.

In the posted pictures, you can see how regular folks like us can turn into warriors of legend, showing the mystifying transformations of Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, Katana, Sonya, Kung Lao and Stryker.

Apart from Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon stating that there is a chance of approximately 0.0 percent of the original three titles making their way over to the Nintendo Wii U virtual console, he also started what looks like a countdown to something during E3 week, on Twitter.

A while back, during an interview regarding his work on Metal Gear Solid, renowned actor Kiefer Sutherland mentioned something about being involved in a Mortal Kombat project, which evidently nobody knows anything about, so it might just be a sequel patiently lying in wait for the grand reveal.
