The Forza Motorsport 5 weekend was a hit with Gold members

Microsoft's Phil Spencer, the leader of the company's Xbox division, confirms that the recent free Forza Motorsport 5 weekend available to Xbox Live Gold owners was a success and that more such initiatives are going to take place in the future.

The Xbox One platform isn't the most popular one in terms of sales and public perception, but Microsoft has gone to great lengths to ensure that the new console is still relevant and can draw in more and more people.

The latest effort has been the Forza Motorsport 5 free weekend for Xbox Live Gold members, which allowed any Xbox One user with an active Gold subscription to download and play for free the exclusive racing game.

According to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, the response from fans to the weekend offer has been great, and as a result these kinds of features are set to return at a later point in time, presumably with other games being offered for free during a limited period.

These are in addition to the Games with Gold initiative, which gives Gold members across Xbox One and Xbox 360 free access to a select number of games each month.

It's unclear what other promotions Microsoft has up its sleeve, so expect to hear more soon enough.

@BIGstevecw @Xbox @ForzaMotorsport Thanks. The response to the #GoldWeekend has been good so far. Looking at more of these kinds of features
