Developers need to rethink the way they create their titles

Peter Molyneux, the video game designer best known for working on Populous and Black & White, says that developers and gamers need to see free-to-play video games as equals of the long-running series in television and plan for them accordingly.

The developer is quoted by VG247 as saying during the F2P Summit in London that, “You watch a TV series for half an hour or 40 minutes, wait for a period of time then watch another one. That’s more like what free-to-play is.”

He adds, “You can’t introduce free-to-play mechanics to a title six months after it’s released.”

The business model needs to be part of a game’s design in order to ensure its long-term stability.

At the moment, Peter Molyneux and his 22 Cans team are working on Project Godus.
