Minecraft for the Xbox 360 was recently released as a retail experience in the U.S. and, according to the creator of the game, Markus "Notch" Persson, it's currently the fastest selling console game in the country.

Minecraft amazed millions of gamers from around the world as it allowed them to create all sorts of crazy things in their own open world sandbox.

The game was also a hit on the Xbox 360, gathering around 6 million downloads in over a year.

Now, the retail version of the game was released earlier this month and, according to a series of Twitter messages posted by creator Markus Persson, the new release is the fastest selling console game in the U.S.

The retail Xbox 360 version of Minecraft will soon be launched in other territories, like Europe or Asia, so sales are bound to keep on increasing.
