Mojang is planning on releasing a physical edition of Minecraft for the PlayStation 3 home entertainment system, and it will land in stores everywhere next month.

The madness started earlier today, when PlayStation App users were emailed an advert for the impending release of the boxed edition of Minecraft for the PS3, scheduled to come out on May 14.

The physical version comes as no surprise, as the Xbox 360 edition of the game has become accustomed to hanging out in the online charts, ever since it was launched last year.

Mojang has confirmed that the adverts for the physical edition of PS3 were a real thing and upped the ante by also revealing the Minecraft box art for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of the popular building sandbox.

The console ports are being developed by 4J Studios, who have now synchronized development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, and are also working on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of Minercraft.

So far, Minecraft for the PS3 has been downloaded over 1.5 million times on the PlayStation Network. The Xbox 360 edition, with its head start, reached 12 million copies sold earlier this month, which brings the game's aggregate sales to around 40 million units. Not bad at all.
