Microsoft and Machinima claim that the YouTube based promotion for the Xbox One that only featured positive content about the home console is normal and does not represent an attempt to bribe gamers in any way.

The two companies have issued a joint statement, which The Verge quotes as saying that, "This partnership between Machinima and Microsoft was a typical marketing partnership to promote Xbox One in December. The Xbox team does not review any specific content or provide feedback on content."

The two companies are also saying that confidentiality rules are linked to the agreements between them and content creators and that the promotion itself was never set to be secret.

Many gamers were outraged when it was revealed that those who were able to create positive coverage about the Xbox One were able to get a bonus to their revenue, as long as they mentioned the device and features at least 30 second of footage from a game launched for it.
