Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on the PC requires a permanent online connection because of an issue with Steam and that it will be fixed as soon as possible.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on the PC came out yesterday and it's already caused a big controversy as it can't be played offline, leading some to believe that Konami intentionally put an always-online DRM (digital rights management) in the new title.

Now, the company has clarified the matter and revealed that an issue with Steam is preventing the game from becoming playable when not connected to the Internet.

The publisher mentioned on Twitter that it's looking into the problem and that it will fix it as soon as possible.

Until then, if you want to play Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on PC you'll have to be online to do so.
