Just after announcing that MechWarrior Online has reached a total of 1 million players, the development team at Piranha Games reveals that the mech-based title will get an official launch and version 1.0 on September 17.

Until then, the studio will continue to update the beta stage and is seeking more feedback from the community.

Piranha is also adding a new hero mech to the game and says that 12 versus 12 players battles will soon be implemented along a number of gameplay changes.

The team says that 3 billion tons of metal have been destroyed since MechWarrior Online was launched and that 12,623,214,618 missiles have been fired since the open beta started.

87 million homes could have been powered for an entire month with the energy used by the lasers fired by the player community.
