The developers at Piranha Games have launched new footage for their upcoming robot battle simulator MechWarrior Online, which shows how players will experience the game from the in-cockpit view.

The video is rather brief, but there’s a good look at the various game mechanics and fans can see the progress made since the game was first shown off during last year.

MechWarrior Online uses the CryEngine 3 to create vast battlefields on which robots can do battle, with players able to pick their class and then customize their machines in order to suit their own approach to a fight.

Gamers will be able to join one of the Great Houses or create their own mercenary company to run.

The game will use the free-to-play business model and will allow gamers to expand their experience by buying items with real-world money.

The MechWarrior Online MMO is set to arrive on the PC at some point before the end of 2012.
