Video game developer BioWare says that server maintenance for the multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3 will take place from 12 AM Pacific Standard Time and is expected to last until 3 AM.

The official Twitter account for Mass Effect 3 states, “Server maintenance scheduled for tonight between 12-3am PST. Impact should be minimal, but just an FYI!”

The minimal impact line might mean that, despite the maintenance, gamers will still be able to play as usual or that interruptions for individual zones will be kept to a minimum.

BioWare has not said exactly why the maintenance period is required, but previously it has used them to upgrade its own infrastructure ahead of new content launch.

The multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3 has been surprisingly popular since the game launched in March 2012 and the developers are still running weekly operations.
