14 DAY TRIAL // Video game developer and publisher Nintendo is announcing that it will launch a new title called Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in order to celebrate the real world competitions that will take place in Brazil next year.
The title will be offered on the Wii U home console and on the 3DS handheld, but it's unclear whether there are plans for interactions between the two devices.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will introduce rugby and golf as playable sports for the first time in the series.
Other activities traditionally linked to the summer Olympics are also included, but so far Nintendo has not offered a full rundown.
The new Mario videogame will probably allow players to use their Mii avatars to compete and more social and gameplay elements will be announced closer to launch.
The development team has not yet offered a clear launch window, but Nintendo will aim to deliver the experience at some point during May to capture as big an audience as possible.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games might be a good way to promote sales for both the Wii U and the 3DS, but by the time it arrives, the company might already be more focused on its new NX.
