French game development studio Dontnod has released the first in a series of video dev blogs meant to introduce players to the world of their upcoming adventure Life Is Strange.

The game was first unveiled back in August and is now looking to make its debut at the end of the month on several platforms. The episodic adventure game follows Maxine Caulfield, a photography student who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time.

The game is pretty much a more interactive version of "The Butterfly Effect" movie, consisting of several episodes over the course of which players will get to toy around with the time frame and explore the ramifications of their actions.

Life Is Strange is played from a third-person perspective and enables gamers to go back and redo any action beyond a certain checkpoint, seeing how their choices affect the story in the short, mid and long term.

The story revolves around childhood friends Max and Chloe, reunited after the disappearance of another girl, setting out to investigate what happened.

Aside from showing us a bit of the upcoming game, developer Dontnod has also revealed that publisher Square Enix was the only one not to request that they change their lead from female to male.

The company’s previous game, Remember Me, also had a female leading character and some interesting gameplay mechanics involving going into people’s memories.

The first episode of Life Is Strange is coming out on January 30, headed to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC platforms.
