It seems that the special project between Payday: The Heist developer, Overkill, and Valve is actually a prequel for the Left 4 Dead franchise, which is going to arrive in the form of a DLC named Payday: No Mercy.

Payday: The Heist arrived last year and, while it wasn’t that successful, it put developer Overkill on the map and prompted fellow Swedish studio Starbreeze to acquire it.

Overkill also started working on a special project with Valve, the company behind a similar four-player co-op game – Left 4 Dead.

Now, after much speculation, CVG reports that the actual project is a downloadable expansion for Payday: The Heist, called Payday: No Mercy, and will act as a prequel for the Left 4 Dead franchise.

From a presumed trailer that has been taken offline, it seems that the criminal protagonists from Payday are setting up a new heist at Mercy hospital, the same location visited by the survivors from Left 4 Dead 1.

According to the website, the video was accompanied by a short description from Overkill that said, “Have you ever wondered how the Left 4 Dead series began? It started with a heist!"

As of yet, neither Valve nor Overkill has commented on the report.
