Yesterday, a report from DGC Intelligence claimed that the Valve-made DOTA 2 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title is overtaking Riot Games’ League of Legends in terms of popularity, but the company claims that the analysts got their facts wrong.

GamesIndustry cites a statement from Riot Games showing that League of Legends has more players than DOTA 2 on just one shard in Europe, without taking into account players who are enjoying the MOBA title in the United States.

DFC claims that the discrepancies are linked to Asian markets that it does not track.

DOTA 2 is still in beta stage and Valve claims that it will launch a full version of the game during 2013.

League of Legends continues to get access to more heroes and maps, as well as features designed to improve the quality of the game experience.
