Kickstarter might have made it easier for video game developers to get money for their projects, but it’s still hard to manage a project even if it gets money from a crowd of fans rather than from a traditional publisher.

Neil Barnden, who is one of the co-founders of Stainless Games, has told Gamasutra that, “If lots of people are asking for something, you definitely consider it. They are your fans, but they don't necessarily know what's best.”

He added, “It's important that you have complete confidence in your vision.”

It’s not clear how much input from the fans the new Carmageddon game will get.

Kickstarter is only focused on American companies at the moment, which means that Stainless, who is registered in the United Kingdom, need to create a United States subsidiary to get access.

The Stainless Games executive also believes that developers will soon have problems when it comes to attracting attention on Kickstarter and that they will need to mix crowdfunding with traditional business models.
