John Carmack, who is the main technology designer at id Software and created such legendary games as Doom and Wolfenstein, has stated that the PC is no longer the main platform for gaming.

Speaking to IndustryGamers the games creator said, “We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games. That statement will enrage some people, but it is hard to characterize it otherwise; both console versions will have larger audiences than the PC version.”

He also said that the main platforms for the recently launched RAGE were the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Carmack added, "You can choose to design a game around the specs of a high-end PC and make console versions that fail to hit the design point, or design around the specs of the consoles and have a high-end PC provide incremental quality improvements.”

RAGE had issues with drivers from both ATI and Nvidia when it was launched.
