John Carmack, the id Software veteran well known for his hardware expertise, is praising Sony for the reveal of its PlayStation 4 home console and for the specifications that have been made public.

Carmack states via Twitter that, “I can’t speak freely about PS4, but now that some specs have been made public, I can say that Sony made wise engineering choices.”

The developer has previously voiced his concern about the next generation of hardware, saying that both Sony and Microsoft might have problems creating devices that are compelling for gamers.

The PlayStation 4 will include a X86 processor, 8 GB of unified memory and an enhanced graphics processing unit.

Sony is also promising that its new device will include a streamlined architecture that will make it easier for teams to develop titles for the platform.
