The 3DS moves more units than the PlayStation 4

The Wii U home console has managed to deliver a very solid performance in the most recent hardware sales chart in Japan, reaching number one with sales of 17,713 units, which is a big improvement over the 7,611 that it posted during the previously tracked period.

The device has managed to impress because gamers were interested in picking up the new Splatoon, one of the exclusive titles that Nintendo had heavily promoted.

For the week that ended on May 31, the 3DS handheld has also posted an increase in its numbers, moving to 17,636 coming from 15,257, according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF.

In third place in Japan, the PlayStation Vita also registered an increase of about 2,000 units, reaching 13,046.

The PlayStation 4 is in fourth, with 12,272, and the older PS3 has once again scored better sales numbers than the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Splatoon has managed to sell 144,818 copies during its first week on sale, which is a really impressive performance, and it is followed in the software chart by Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe from SEGA, with 41,442 sold copies.

The rest of the top ten includes: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition, Mario Kart 8, Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo tr., Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki, Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, Assassination Classroom: Korosensei Daihouimou!!, and Nobunaga's Ambition: Creation with Power-Up Kit.
