For yet another week, the performance of the PlayStation 4 on the home Japanese market has been unimpressive and the device has been once again defeated in terms of sales by both the rival Wii U from Nintendo and the older PS3.

The best performer is, like it has been for a long time, the 3DS handheld, which has seen its sales increase by about 2,000 units in order to reach a solid 37,515, followed by the PlayStation Vita from Sony, which has improved its own numbers to 20,734 for the week that ended on August 31.

According to the data compiled by Media Create and quoted by NeoGAF, the Wii U has managed to deliver 8,584 units to gamers, the best performance of all the home consoles, followed by the PS3, which has impressively increased its sales from 2,376 to 7,895.

The PlayStation 4 only moved 6,502 devices to players and it will be interesting to see how its performance will compare to that of the Xbox One, which will soon be out on the Japanese market.

The best-selling video game is the newly launched Persona 4: Arena Ultimax from Atlus for the PS3, which has delivered 89,468 copies to gamers.

The rest of the top ten includes: Toukiden: The Age of Demons Extreme, Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke, Love Live! School Idol Paradise Vol.1: Printemps / Vol.2: BiBi / Vol.3: Lily White, Hyperdimension Action Neptunia U, Medarot 8: Kabuto Ver. / Kuwagata Ver., Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin F - Coffin of the End, Mario Kart 8, Toukiden: The Age of Demons Extreme, and Bullet Girls.
