The PlayStation 4 home console has once again underperformed on the Japanese market and has failed to deliver enough sales to its customer base to surpass the older and underpowered Wii U from Nintendo.

The 3DS handheld continues to be the best-selling piece of hardware in the country, and it has managed to deliver 35,702 units to gamers for the week that ended on August 24, which is a decline when compared to the 51,794 of the previous celebratory week.

Second place is occupied by the PlayStation Vita, another handheld, with 16,427 units sold, and the Wii U comes on the last place on the podium, with 8,985, a decline from 18,161.

The PlayStation 4, which moved 5,923 devices according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF, has managed to perform much better than the older PS3.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke from Level 5 on the 3DS continues to be the video game which performs best, with sales of 77,465.

The rest of the top ten includes: The Last of Us Remastered with sales of 30,587; Bullet Girls, Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition on the PS4, Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition on the PS3, Hyrule Warriors, Yoshi's New Island, Mario Kart 8, Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2, and Ultra Street Fighter IV.
