The launch of Mario Kart 8 has already been shown to have a big impact on the prospects of the Wii U in the United Kingdom and data coming from Japan shows that the new racing video game has managed to more than double sales on the core Japanese market.

The 3DS handheld remains at the top of the hardware chart for the week that ended on June 1, according to data from Media Create quoted by NeoGAF, with numbers that have remained largely flat at 23,733.

The Wii U has managed to take second place by delivering 19,312 devices to its own fans, which is a significant improvement over the 9,024 posted during the previous week.

The last place on the podium belongs to the PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony, which has to outsold the PlayStation 3, which in turn has performed better than the PlayStation 4.

The next-gen Sony platform has only managed to deliver 6,508 units to gamers, which is a decrease over the previously tracked period.

During its launch week, Mario Kart 8 from Nintendo has managed to move 325,892 copies to gamers, which is a very good performance for the Wii U only title.

The rest of the top ten includes: Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Stories, Yo-kai Watch, Chou Megami Shinkou Noire: Gekishin Black Heart, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014: Samurai Blue Challenge, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014: Samurai Blue Challenge on the 3DS, Infamous: Second Son, The Idolmaster: One for All, Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! and Mario Party: Island Tour.
